Our most commonly selected options are our open-book Hybrid CM at Risk Model – which delivers a turn-key solution with the maximum amount of financial transparency; a full Lump-Sum Design-Build option which guarantees a fixed price and no change-orders for the delivery of the agreed upon turn-key project scope; and an OpEx models that matches the client with an operator who will fund the entire project and lease back the built-to-suit data center at an agreed upon monthly fee – shifting the capital burden to the operator and away from our client.

With all options, Focus’s team of engineers, designers and construction professionals will work closely with our client’s technical team, coordinating critical path design items to reduce the time it takes to obtain permits and begin construction. Or, if you already have a design team, Focus’s experienced professionals can easily work in collaboration with them to take on whatever is needed to maximize project efficiency. Developing and operating a data center often ends up being an iterative process because data center environments are commonly developed in phases as a result of evolving business objectives. This incremental growth, many times complicated by changes in personnel, frequently leads to a vulnerable facility despite starting out with a solid plan. 

While deep familiarity with a facility is key to effective management, it can also foster a lack of clarity when it comes to vulnerability and opportunities for improved performance – the classic, can’t see the forest for the trees idiom.

Getting a new perspective from an independent third party can not only reveal serious risks but also help you assess how effectively the data center is meeting current business goals.  It can highlight areas of improvement and provide a cost-effective pathway to meeting longer-term objectives without disrupting current operations.

An effective assessment will provide the necessary information to evaluate the changes required to improve the reliability, efficiency, maintainability and scalability of the site and to insure its match to the site’s current business requirements.

In developing a site assessment, a Technical Team conducts an on-site review, observing and documenting various aspects of the site’s physical, electrical and mechanical infra-structure including:

  • A complete review of electrical and mechanical topology
  • Site condition, building structure
  • Single-Point-of-Failure Analysis
  • Equipment inventory, condition & capacity review
  • Risk assessment and recommendations

 A report is generated to document the condition of the site as well as to discuss the robustness of the design and the integrity of operating practices. 

Also included are recommendations for correcting any existing deficiencies and the presentation of high-level plans for future development.

The assessment is conducted by an experienced team of data center professionals who through direct inspection and interviews, capture information on infrastructure, procedures and corporate objectives.  The data gathered is then compared to client supplied collateral, such as one-lines, as-built drawings, operation and maintenance procedures, etc. and then compared to reference topologies and established best practices to allow the presentation of a comprehensive set of recommendations.  As appropriate, reports will include one or more road maps that will lead to the achievement of the client's stated objectives.  

Upon completion of the assessment, the data, recommendations and road maps are presented in a comprehensive report aimed at the target audience within the client organization that can be reinforced by an in-person review with the project team.

The Data Center Infrastructure Assessment is designed to uncover potential failures before they occur, chart a course for future development, and insure that the data center will meet current and future business objectives.  Specifically, the assessment will provide the client with a road map to:
